Wade Bierbach, Physiotherapist, BScPT, ACSM, ES, CAFCI, ES, co-owner
Wade Bierbach received his Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from the University of Montana in 1995.
He completed numerous post-graduate certificates including acupuncture from the Acupuncture Foundation Canadian Institute, Active Release TechniqueR (ART) provider and Exercise Specialist from the American College of Sports Medicine.
Wade gained experience in both inpatient and outpatient service delivery including cardiac rehabilitation and outpatient orthopedics.
In 2003, he and Sharla Butler opened Excel Physical Therapy.
Wade is married to Jayda and has two fun-loving girls, Anya and Annika.
He serves on several community boards and is a sports enthusiast. Wade fills his spare time with hunting, golfing, hiking and playing with his Pooch.
Sharla Butler, Physiotherapist, BScPT, CPMA, co-owner
Sharla Butler graduated from the University of Montana with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy in 1992. She also received her diploma in Registered Nursing from Lethbridge Community College in 1989.
She has completed post graduate courses in orthopedics, acupuncture, concussion rehabilitation, ergonomics, industrial rehabilitation, functional capacity evaluations, and pre-work screens.
In 2004 she received her Certificate in Medical Acupuncture from the University of Alberta. She is certified through Workwell Systems to provide pre-work screens, functional job analysis and functional capacity evaluations.
In addition to her work at Excel Physical Therapy, she is an instructor with the Therapy Assistant Program at Medicine Hat College. She enjoys gardening, golf and trying to train her Airedale dog Flynn and her partner in life, Wayne…one of them is easier to train than the other
Stephanie Toews, Physiotherapist, BScPT
Stephanie graduated from the University of Alberta in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy. She has completed post-graduate courses in orthopedics, manual therapy, myofascial release, lymphedema management, running, and neck exercise. She began her career at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital in 2001, working with a wide variety of clients of all ages, treating many post-surgical and fracture cases. She joined Excel Physical Therapy in 2008.
Stephanie is married to Steve, and has two young children, Emily and Watson. Stephanie continues to enjoy playing music and running, and has previous experience in golfing, weight training, and Karate.
Megan Sehn, Physiotherapist, MScPT
Megan was born and raised in Medicine Hat, graduating from McCoy High School prior to pursuing her post-secondary education. She completed the first two years of her undergraduate degree at Medicine Hat College. Megan is a graduate from the University of Saskatchewan having received her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology (minor in psychology), Great Distinction in 2014 and Masters of Physical Therapy in 2016. While completing her masters, she was a Member of the Physical Therapy Students’ Society where her duties included representing physical therapy on the Health Sciences’ Student Association. The research project Megan contributed to, Exploring the Development of Cultural Humility Practice Approach Among MPT Students, received second in the Poster Presentation at the CPA National Congress 2016 in Victoria, BC. During her time at the U of S she volunteered for the SWITCH (Student Wellness Initiative toward Community Health) clinic in the Saskatoon core as well as with the Huskie Student Trainer Program where she provided event coverage for a variety of sports, with her focus being on women’s volleyball.
Megan’s background and other interests include playing as well as coaching volleyball for the local SEAVC program, slo-pitch, fastball, strength training as well as fostering dogs.
Preston Sloan, Physiotherapist, MScPT
Preston completed his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from the University of Alberta in 2014. He continued at the UofA to finish his Masters in Physical Therapy in 2016. During his education, Preston assisted in research projects: one studying low back pain; and another, the conservative management of Scoliosis. He enjoys helping patients of all ages and abilities achieve their functional goals.
Preston is happy to return to Medicine Hat and give back to the community that has supported him through his life. Outside of work, Preston enjoys playing tennis, attending local sporting events, and spending time with his wife, Kenidy and their two boys.
Robyn Zemp, Physical Therapist Assistant
Robyn Zemp graduated from Lethbridge College with a Diploma in Exercise Science, and then transferred to Medicine Hat College to complete the Physical and Occupational Assistant Program. She received an honor recognition and a certificate in Athletic Therapy.
Robyn participated in colligate soccer for five years at both institutions and continues to play as a personal hobby.
Her responsibilities at Excel Physical Therapy include assisting the physical therapists, working with modalities, educating clients and creating home exercise programs.
She helps assist with administration, inventory and maintenance of the clinic. Robyn is trained in Nordic/Urban Pole Walking. Robyn enjoys traveling with her husband Justin and hiking with her dogs.
Kaden Johnson, Kinesiologist, BScKin, MScPT
Kaden first came to Medicine Hat to play volleyball for MHC in 2006. He then went on receive his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology (2012) from the University of Saskatchewan. Kaden was a trainer for the UofS Men's hockey team for 2 years before moving to Scotland to further his education and obtain a MSc in Physiotherapy. He also worked iwth the Chinese Winter Olympic speedskating and figureskating teams. He is working as our kinesiologist while he navigates the Canadian physiotherapy licensing process.
Kaden enjoys traveling with his wife, Mackenzie. He spends his spare time golfing, fishing and playing volleyball.
Jerica Colenutt, Massage Therapist
Jerica Colenutt has six years of experience as a massage therapist and worked in a variety of environments from spas to massage clinics to chiropractic clinics as well as working out of her home and doing mobile massage prior to joining Excel Physical Therapy.
Jerica attended the Alberta College of Massage, attaining her certificate of Swedish Relaxation Massage in 2011 and her diploma of Massage Therapy in 2012.
She has also taken courses in Raindrop Therapy, Hot Stone Therapy, Thai Stem Detox Therapy, Pregnancy Massage, Headache and Neck Pain Therapy, Pharmacology and Massage and an introductory course in Body Talk.
She plans to continue her learning program with plans to study Myofascial Release, Cupping, Graston Therapy and Reflexology.
Outside of work, she enjoys reading, photography, movies, working out, cooking, camping and spending time with her husband. She also likes to make natural bath products.
Joanne Taylor, Office Administrator
Joanne Taylor joined Excel Physical Therapy in 2009 as Office Administrator after 23 years of experience in the financial industry. Her roles including booking appointments, processing benefits and Motor Vehicle claims.
She enjoys seeing how our patients progress and get moving again. She is normally the first person you meet when you come into the clinic.
When she is not working, Joanne and her husband Scott enjoy golfing, travelling and camping with their daughter Megan and dogs Mocha and Minnie.
