Wade Bierbach, Physiotherapist, BScPT, ACSM, CAFCI, ES, co-owner

Wade Bierbach received his Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from the University of Montana in 1995.

He completed numerous post-graduate certificates including acupuncture from the Acupuncture Foundation Canadian Institute, IMS, Active Release TechniqueR (ART) provider and Exercise Specialist from the American College of Sports Medicine.

Wade gained experience in both inpatient and outpatient service delivery including cardiac rehabilitation and outpatient orthopedics.  Wade puts his energy into making sure your orthopedic needs are met so that you can live an active lifestyle.  

In 2003, he and Sharla Butler opened Excel Physical Therapy.

Wade is married to Jayda and has two fun-loving girls, Anya and Annika.

He serves on several community boards and is a sports enthusiast.  Wade fills his spare time with hunting, golfing, and hiking.

 

Sharla Butler, Physiotherapist, BScPT, CPMA, co-owner

Sharla Butler graduated from the University of Montana with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy in 1992. She also received her diploma in Registered Nursing from Lethbridge Community College in 1989.

She has completed post graduate courses in orthopedics, acupuncture, concussion rehabilitation and vestibular dysfunction, ergonomics, industrial rehabilitation, functional capacity evaluations, and pre-work screens.  In 2004 she received her Certificate in Medical Acupuncture from the University of Alberta.  She is certified through Workwell Systems to provide pre-work screens, functional job analysis and functional capacity evaluations.

Sharla likes to treat the complex patient. While orthopedics is near and dear to her heart, she also likes treating neurological patients (think concussion, dizziness, stroke, etc.)   Tried lots of other things that didn't work?  Give her a call.

In addition to her work at Excel Physical Therapy, she is an instructor with the Therapy Assistant Program at Medicine Hat College.  She enjoys gardening, golf and trying to train her Airedale Terrier, Flynn.  Flynn seems to be coming along nicely with his training, has found a comfy spot on the couch and a pillow he likes to rest on after digging holes in the yard or hiking with his TwoLegs.

 

Stephanie Toews, Physiotherapist, BScPT

Stephanie graduated from the University of Alberta in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy.  She began her career at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital in 2001, treating a variety of post-surgical and fracture cases.  She has completed post-graduate courses in orthopedics, manual therapy, myofascial release, lymphedema management, running, and neck exercise.  She started working at Excel in 2008 and is passionate about helping you achieve your goals.  She is known for her hands-on approach, and will provide you with education and the exercises you need to help yourself along the way.

Stephanie is married to Steve, and has two young children, Emily and Watson who love BMX.  Stephanie enjoys playing music and has experience in running, golfing, weight training, and Karate.

 

Kaden Johnson, Physiotherapist, BScKin, MScPT

Kaden first came to Medicine Hat to play volleyball for MHC in 2006.  He then went on receive his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology (2012) from the University of Saskatchewan.  Kaden was a trainer for the UofS Men's hockey team for 2 years before moving to Scotland to further his education and obtain a MSc in Physiotherapy.  He also worked with the Chinese Winter Olympic speedskating and figure skating teams.  Kaden has joined our team and invites you to book an appointment with him for your physiotherapy needs.  He is energized by helping people with knee, shoulder, ankle and hip problems return to an active lifestyle.

Kaden enjoys traveling with his wife, Mackenzie.  He spends his spare time golfing, fishing and playing volleyball.

Dee Christie-Coster, Physiotherapist, Bachelors Health Science, Masters Health Science (Rehab)

Dee, a Saskatchewan girl born and raised, returns to Canada after taking her university education and first 10 years of her work career in New Zealand.  She was busy there, earning not only her physiotherapy degree, but also taking her masters in health science with an emphasis on the chronic pain patient.  Have a case of persistent lower back pain?  Sciatica getting you down?  Dee has some great strategies for you!  Dee also has training in pelvic health issues.  Scared to laugh too much, sneeze or jump?  She can help.

Dee loves treating all kinds of musculoskeletal problems.  She got lots of practise with that during her work day, and while serving as the team physiotherapist for a few different rugby clubs.  In her spare time, Dee likes running, yoga and pilates, and socializing with friends.  She brings a wealth of knowledge to our clinic, along with a hint of a kiwi accent.  

Brett Griscowsky, Physiotherapist, MScPT, BscKin

Brett is a Medicine Hat local, born and raised!  Brett received his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology (U of Calgary - 2016) and his Masters of Physical Therapy (U of Alberta- 20220) after his initial start in post-secondary education at Medicine Hat College.  While at MHC he played on the golf team and was a founding member of the Rattlers Athletics Leadership Initiative which is a program derived to improve community involvement.  Brett continues to work in the community, sharing his expertise with the South Alberta Hockey Academy currently.

Brett loves the problem-solving component of being a physiotherapist. He has a passion for treating shoulders and knees, and has taken postgraduate training in concussion management.  Regardless of the physical problem, Brett likes working with his clients to find strategies that work best for them and then helping them progress back to the lifestyle they want to live.

Outside of work, you can find Brett playing golf, hockey (stand-up or sledge)or enjoying the company of his partner Leeann.  Together they enojoy walking or biking, and playing various sports such as spikeball and tennis.

Amber Schindle, Physiotherapist, MScPT

Amber joined our team in late 2020, proving that some great things did happen in that fateful year!  She calls Medicine Hat her hometown, having grown up here, graduated from the Therapist Assistant Program at Medicine Hat College, then going on to complete her Bachelors (U of Calgary) and Masters degrees (U of Alberta).  She graduated as a physiotherapist in 2019 and has worked in Canada and overseas since that time. 

Fun facts about Amber?  She has lived in 7 cities, 3 countries and 2 continents in the last 11 years.  She brings a great attitude to the clinic, a passion for exercise and treatment of the complex pain patient.  She like treating the shoulder and neck,and also uses needling in her practise.  Have a sports injury?  She has always lead an active lifestyle, doing group classes, lifting weights and participating in many sports.  Speak Russian?  So does she.

Grace Torrance, Physiotherapist, BScPT

Grace grew up in Medicine Hat and is a graduate from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy.  She has worked in public health care and education settings in Halifax, Medicine Hat, Fort MacLeod, and Ottawa.  In 1994, she moved to education and began the Therapist Assistant Program at Medicine Hat College, retired from there in December 2020.  She also taught for the Internationally Educated Physiotherapist Bridging Program through the University of Alberta from 1994 – 1996.   Her clinical experience has been mainly with pediatric or adult neurological clients, at the IWK in Halifax,  in what is now Pediatric Allied Health at the Medicine Hat Hospital, the Special Care Unit in Fort MacLeod and at the Ottawa Children’s Treatment Center.  She has been doing some private pediatric work through Excel Physiotherapy for the past few years.

Grace has completed many pediatric post graduate courses but most notably a 2 month intensive pediatric Neuro- Developmental Treatment approach course at Alberta Children’s Hospital; Pediatric Myofascial Release and Developmental Coordination Disorder.  At this point in her career, Grace is semi-retired but still enjoys working with pediatric clients, specifically those developmental concerns, cerebral palsy and other neurological conditions, as well those with Down Syndrome.

Grace grew up downhill skiing at Hidden Valley and continues to enjoy it, although now prefers to cruise rather than attack the hill.  She spends time on golf courses in Medicine Hat but doesn’t consider herself a golfer, is the mother of two adult sons, who live in BC and Ontario, and is the feeder of her cat, Alfred, who rules her house and yard.

Robyn  Zemp, Physical Therapist Assistant

Robyn Zemp graduated from Lethbridge College with a Diploma in Exercise Science, and then transferred to Medicine Hat College to complete the Physical and Occupational Assistant Program. She received honors recognition and a certificate in Athletic Therapy.  Robyn participated in collegiate soccer for five years at both institutions and continues to play recreationally.

Robyn will greet you with a great smile and her signature quick wit.  Her responsibilities at Excel Physical Therapy include assisting the physical therapists, working with modalities, educating clients and teaching home exercise programs.  She also assists with administration, inventory and maintenance of the clinic. Robyn is trained in Nordic/Urban Pole Walking. Robyn enjoys high intensity interval training, traveling with her husband Justin and hiking with her dogs.  She is loving being mom to a determined toddler too!

Cierra Price, Physical Therapist Assistant

Cierra played basketball for the Medicine Hat College while completing her diploma in the Occupational and Physical Therapy Assistant program.  She joined our team in August 2018 bringing two years experience with her.  She enjoys golf, volleyball, slowpitch, and basketball in her spare recreational time.  You will find Cierra wearing a few hats at the clinic, sometimes at the front desk and sometimes in the treatment area.  Either place, she will do her best to help make your experience at Excel PT fantastic!

Victor Cambeiro, Physical Therapist Assistant

Victor is another graduate of the Medicine Hat College PTA program.  He came to Medicine Hat from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to play soccer and get an education. He liked it here so much he stayed, met his wife and found his dream job here at Excel.   Victor is a soccer enthusiast to the extreme, and if you follow his team, Flamengo, you will be sure to be on his good side!  He also loves the outdoors, music, and hiking.  While he loves Canada, he does miss the beach on a daily basis...especially in the winter!

Joanne Taylor, Office Administrator

Joanne Taylor joined Excel Physical Therapy in 2009 as Office Administrator after 23 years of experience in the financial industry.  Her roles including herding physiotherapists and (attempts at) keeping them on schedule, booking appointments, processing benefits and managing Motor Vehicle claims.

She enjoys seeing how our patients progress and get moving again. She is normally the first person you meet when you come into the clinic.

When she is not working, Joanne and her husband Scott enjoy golfing, travelling and camping with their daughter Megan.
