Active Release Technique®

Active Release Technique (ART®) is a patented , scientific soft tissue system that involves movement-based massage to treat problems impacting the muscles, tendons, fascia, ligaments and nerves.

Patients who suffer headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shoulder pains, knee problems, shin splints, sciatica, plantar fasciitis and tennis elbow are among those who can benefit greatly from this specialized technique.

It is a way to resolve these problems quickly and permanently in many cases.

It involves a combination of examination and treatment. More than 500 unique moves are involved, making ARTR unique and effective.

Acupuncture

Both Western and Traditional Chinese Medicine therapy of acupuncture are especially effective in assisting patients suffering with chronic pain conditions, including fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome.

Through the repeated penetration of the skin using thin sterile metallic needles, we help to correct imbalances of flow at points near the skin and relieve pain and stiffness.

Acupuncture is a highly customized therapy. We work with each patient individually, identifying the problematic areas and treating appropriately.

Back and Neck Pain Care

In Canada, one of the most frequent reasons people seek physical therapy is to deal with back and neck pain. Both conditions can keep you from work and seriously impact your quality of life.

After a complete assessment where we work to determine the root cause of your pain, we will recommend a customized program of physical therapy, often combined with prescribed exercises.

Our goal is to reduce pain and get you back to your normal level of activity as quickly as possible.

Vertigo and Concussion Evaluation and Management

Concussion awareness is on the forefront of many peoples' minds.  And it should be.  At Excel Physical Therapy we recognize the importance of a well-functioning nervous system and the role of physiotherapists in helping people detect and manage concussion symptoms.  We have therapists trained specifically in the Shift Concussion Management program which emphasizes a multifaceted approach based on the latest scientific research on concussion.  Our goal is to provide the highest quality baseline testing, detection, education and rehabilitation for people either at risk for concussion (i.e. due to sport involvement) or whom have suffered a concussion.  Dizziness from a concussion or other cause?  We can evaluate your dizziness and help you find freedom from vestibular impairments.

Ergonomic Evaluations

We have expertise in determining if workplaces are designed ergonomically or if they are creating problems that will result in employee health issues over time.

We will go to your company and do a complete assessment complete with recommendations for change if needed.

Exercise Prescriptions

When you can exercise at home between visits to our clinic, you become a partner in your own rehabilitation and can reach your goal of recovery faster.

We will often prescribe exercises for you to ensure that you maintain and grow your progress between visits.

Functional Capacity Evaluations

Determining when it is safe for an injured worker to return to the job happens when a Functional Capacity Evaluation is performed.

It is a detailed assessment of a person’s safe abilities and is related to the functional phyiscial requirements of their job and life.

The evaluations include a series of standardized testing and measures from which decisions can be made.

Manual Therapy

We use hands-on manual therapy to mobilize and manipulate a patient in an effort to decrease pain and increase range of motion.

Manual therapy is very effective in adding flexibility to stiff joints and muscles.

These treatments, combined with prescribed exercises between visits, can help heal injuries and restore function after injuries and when dealing with certain health condition.

Motor Vehicle Accidents

We are experienced in dealing with whiplash and other musculoskeletal issues that result from motor vehicle accidents.

We will work with your physician or surgeon and after assessing your injuries, prescribe a course of physical therapy that will help you recover as quickly and thoroughly as possible.

Pediatric Assessments

We offer a caring and friendly environment in which to do pediatric assessments.

We are keenly aware of the needs of children impacted by orthopedic disorders and we treat a wide range of conditions to help in childhood development.

Pelvic Health Interventions

Pelvic health issues have widespread impacts on our lives.  Pelvic floor dysfunction can present as incontinence (urinary, fecal, stress or urge),  pain in the pelvic floor, prolapse, lower back and/or hip pain.  There is often conservative help for pelvic floor dysfunctions.  We offer private rooms for assessment and treatment of pelvic floor issues, research-based scientific interventions and a caring environment.

Postural Assessments

When a patient’s gait or alignment is off, pain can be the result. We are experienced in doing postural assessments to determine the source of the problem if there is pain, or a precursor to a problem in the future.

Pre-Work Screening

We are trained to help employers determine if an employee has the physical strength and skills necessary to do specific jobs.
